From the wood shop

From the Wood shop this week is a baking station for the wife's on going kitchen remodeling job. Made from solid Oak with Walnut trim it has a 32x24 top for bread and pizza dough making. Drawer for storing big cookie sheets and places to hang pizza boards. Cost about 25% of what Home Depot wanted for one. Should be good for a few fishing trips this summer!

Clean it good and then rub in Mineral Oil. You can clean them using just table salt and a little water mixed till it is like a slurry and rub it in. Wipe off the excess and towel off, Then add a nice layer of mineral oil and let it soak in. I do that for all my cutting boards, pizza boards and even clean the fish boards that way. You do not want to use a vegetable oil or put a finish on your boards. The top food prep is done with the mineral oil (you can get that at any drug store)the rest of the unit has three coats of poly on it.

Did you make the pizza peel as well? Very nice baking station!

Yes, I made several of them and gave them away as x-mas presents a few years ago. Watched my son-in-law use the cardbaord box the pizza came in to hold his pizza so I went looking for a wood paddle. Could not find any so I made them. Paddles are made out of Maple and Oak with Walnut handles.

Sounds like something my dad would have done. My sister received a lefse griddle for Christmas one year, so I was showing her how to make it. She didn't have a turning stick, so my dad scrounged up a piece of wood out of their shop, formed and sanded it, and that is what we used that year. smile

Your craftsmanship looks a lot like my dad's as well. That is one thing I really miss about him. Whenever we would come to visit, he would be in his basement wood shop, working on something for gifts, or working on something for my mom.
