Myrt
IS 38+12(EXTENSION)...50" LONG ENOUGH TO GET THROUGH THE ICE AT WINNIPEG OR RED RIVER AT THIS TIME? OR DO YOU NEED 24" EXTENSION? THANKS FOR ANY INPUT!
LeeMB
50" will get you through most spots. there are a few places i drilled where I couldn't get thru. This was a bit north of where you will probaly be fishing though.

Eyewitness
LeeMB, did you stay at Stu's place? gatorhunter
Lee lives in the local area and fishes the south basin of Lake Winnipeg extensively.I use a 12 inch extension and there are no problems with ice thickness. Just drill in the areas where there is no snow.

If you want to pre-load GPS points of interest I recommend you research it on Google Earth. Very easy to do, handy references to store on your GPS or write down in a notebook...just in case. You can pinpoint the key spots and get the grids from the Google and punch them in as needed.Punching in the access points at Challis Beach (West Side) and the mouth of the main navigation channel on the Red are key spots to make sure you have so just in case you forget to mark them as you access, you still have a way in if the big white blanket shuts off the lights and finding you way back is not easy. LeeMB
eyewitness. Stu usually has a handle on where the fish are and will put you on them. I was out 5 days this week and did really well. Lots of others did good too.Lee
