Ice Gator Auger

Big A

Recommended Posts

I re opened hole with my Nils on a Seeker all winter and never once had a "jam" and the blades are still razer sharp. I cant say the same for my ripper blade bit . Might have somthing to do with the shear tourq of the gator though...

I don't know how they work with the Nils, but I tried it with my strikemaster lazer with new blades. It seemed to want to pull the auger down the hole to quick, and grabs the outer part of the ice too much. It was using the outer most part of the blades, and as far as I am concerned, is not good for the blades. I will be drilling new holes any time I go fishing. With the Gator, it doesn't take any time at all anyhow.

When I was opening the holes I I was drilling as slow as possible, just bumping the "go" button for short bursts. I was in my permy and dint want the mess that would have came had I went wide open, lol. I know what you mean by the grabbing on the outside. My eskimo used to do that to, it must be somthing in the blade design on the nils ,cus it dont feel any different than opening a new hole.

I have the attacker with a Laser Bit on right now and it cuts like a banshee. I am going to try it with an 8" SM chipper blade and see how that works now too. I will inform. I love the Ice Gator.

I feel that "bumping" any electrical component shortens the life of that electrical component. Bumping is hard on the contacts. It can cause burnt spots on the contacts, shortening the life of them.

I ordered the attacker and decided to go with the chipper blade from SM

I ordered the gas auger bit from SM HSOforum..

My concern is the SM site says the chipper blade is 8.25inches, and ICEGATOR says to stay with an 8inch setup..

is this .25inch gonna be an issue you think?

I am planning on using the 8" lazer off of my SM, I am wondering how well it will work for reopening holes in my wheel house that are not all the way froze shut. (They freeze from the outside & after a day or so they are only 5-6" & its nice to run the auger thru them to open them up.) I use a striklite now & it works OK but the Ice Gator turns alot faster & I am woried that because of the higher speed it may not work as well. L

I do not feel there will be an issues with it. I am doing the same. I am taking the bit off of my old Mag 2000. I currently have the bit off of my Laser Mag.

dmengel, I have reopened holes in my hard house with the laser bit and had no problems.

Just got the new Ice Gator dropped on my doorstep yesterday !!

Also recieved the SMaster chipper blade earlier in the week.

So the whole new package is waiting to hit the ice!

I got the gas auger chipper bit to use for inside the perm opening new holes.. and I plan on getting a 8inch lazer on clearance this weekend also.

I am impressed at how easy it is to change/switch blades with the ICE GATOR !!

This baby is going to be a lot of fun and safe me a ton of effort working with a gas motor on the ice !
