Ice Gator Auger

Big A

Recommended Posts

I am going to take the plunge and sell my Jiffy for an Ice Gator.

Anybody know if anyone still has them in stock?

And for those who have one, any thoughts on which blade I should get for it?

It will be an 8inch, thats all I know for sure thus far.

I have the Attacker with 12 amp batteries and 8" lazer blade. You will not regret making the change. One nice thing about the Lazer is it bolts direct to the motor with no adapter. Also the unit usually comes with an adapter but Gator may swap the adapter out for an extension if you buy direct from them.

now ya got me curious on that! didnt relize it was a direct bolt on as I have an adapter and an extention gonna go make me look now huh! I thought it was a direct bolt on for a "Gas auger bit" and I have hand lazer bits

Your right.I should have mentioned that I have the Lazer GAS auger bit not the hand bit. Sorry for the confusion.

I did see one on that popular auction site. I have only seen the one.

I have not actually tested to see how many holes that I can drill in 24" of ice. If I get out this weekend I will experiment and let you know how it goes. I will head out to the nearest lake and make Swiss cheese of it. LOL grin

Mine is a 7", but should be close to the same results as the 8".

For those with the Lazer bits..

Where did you get them and what did they cost?

I figured Id like to get an extension to eliminate that issue, and have no problems spending the $$ needed to get a quality rig.

So I have a question to the guys that have them. How many 8" hole can I excpect to get thru 24" of ice, if I get the one with the bigger batteries? Has anyone ever heard of anyone that wanted to sell there used Icegator?

I don't know the exact answer but I know fished fished for two days before we killed the batteries on about a half charge. I would guess we had close to 50 holes that was with a lazer bit with old blades and it still cut as good as anything i've used.

I bought my (Gas) lazer bit direct from Strikemaster. It was a bit more money vrs the hand bit but it just looked like it was built better. It stands to reason that the gas bit would be built for more torque than a hand bit. That's my thought anyhow.

The Jiffy is sold and the Gator is ORDERED !!

I cant wait!!

I decided to go with a Chipper (gas) blade set from strikemaster as I was told that the Chipper blade is best for re-opening holes in a perm...

I hope I was right with that information?

I re opened hole with my Nils on a Seeker all winter and never once had a "jam" and the blades are still razer sharp. I cant say the same for my ripper blade bit . Might have somthing to do with the shear tourq of the gator though...
