Well, this year you can just get up a head of steam and get up on top of the ice and slide over yonder to the ramp. It couldn't have been more than a few hundred yards anyway...sure, there might be a turn or two in there to manage, and that might be hard when you're all the way out of the water, but you'll think of something. I am envisioning grappling hook type things....think like batman...

ya from reading these posts it sounds like a lot of fun...i would have to borrow equiptment because all i have is walleye/bass/crappie stuff

Me and my brother went for the first time about 3 years ago from shore and the 2nd time out he got a 38 lber...still our groups personal best...since then our father and my brother's friend have joined our group...we pretty much only fish the cats in during the soft water season now and of course hit the shoe a couple times during the hard water season to control our cat craving a little. We strictly fish from shore too and I can't say how much fun it is to hear that clicker go and setting the hook wondering if this is going to be that 50 lber.

funny story - Myself, my brother and his friend were done fishing for the flatties and it was a slow night, so me and my brothers friend (we will call him Dave) decided to try and net a gar. We were about 50 to 75 yards away from my brother on a big flat bar, trying to get the buggars in a small pool that had formed, when my brother yells "RUN RUN" at the top of his lungs. I didn't know whose pole so I started running towards the rods and out of the corner of my eye I see Dave running the other way back towards the shore and into the woods...turns out the dummy thought my brother was yelling for us to run and get the heck out of there...he must of thought we were in the movie Deliverence or something the way he high tailed it out of there!!

I bet after your first night you will be somewhere getting your cattin set-up...once hooked you are hooked for life!!!

A richtor anchor makes a good grappling hook. I suggest the 18lb model for ease of throwing. The 25 pounder breaks through the ice a bit better though.
