deadeye
I was wondering if anyone has bought or made a canoe rack for thier boat? I am going on the annual trip up to Trout Lake in the BWCAW and last year towing the canoe in the choppy lake was just short of a nightmare. I am fishing out of a old school 1979 14 foot Lund with a 25hp Johnson on it, so it cant be too heavy, but it still should hold one canoe. hondarider550
Hey deadeye... yes I have made a rack for my canoe on the back of my truck. It is made similar to a ladder rack and is made out of aluminum square tubing. I plan on taking some pictures for someone else on another thread so if you would like to see those I can post them for you here too or send you to the link when I get them done... alpinefins
i changed from the canoe..........to kayaks.......nine foot fours.......they weigh 36 lbs for portaging into remote lakes.....i tried putting my 17 ft canoe...at a 20 degree angle to the bow on my 1965 tsv alumacraft...everything was fine until i ran into choppy water in jackfish bay...i had to sit on shore until the wind died down at night...now with these ninefours....they fit inside the hull of my boat....paddles reduce to 3 pieces...good luck... Jackpine Rob
We had some racks made for a couple of our boats. Both boats are 14' aluminum, set up for Babbit-style portage wheels. They make hauling a canoe a real snap, even with a stiff breeze. The racks are square steel tubing. Bases were permanently installed on the rear and front seats. The bases have slightly larger square steel tubes, and we slide the racks into the bases, and secure with a simple nut & bolt. When not in use, the racks can be removed. The boats are now buried under several feet of snow up at the cabin, or I'd snap a few pics for you... deadeye
Ya i know that, mine isnt going to get worked on till this spring as its sitting in a snowdrift. We have just been getting a little cabin fever and were trying to come up with a good way to do it. Maybe when the snow is gone I will put this one back up. Jackpine Rob
I generally open up the cabin at the end of April (if the ice is off) and could get you some pictures then.
