The quick disconnect end is 1/4 inch, the sunflower looks to be 3/4 or 7/8 but I am having a hard time measuring it. It would be the size that is on a 20 lb propane tank but I don't know what that is. If nobody knows for sure I'll just bring my sunflower with me.

Are you talking about the actual threads on the tank? Those are not normal threads. That is a compression fitting and left handed.

I agree with you about the threads on the tank being left handed but that is what my Mr Heater Sunflower screws into. So what do I need to make that work with this 5 lb tank that I have that has the quick disconnect mounted on it with 1/4 inch threads.

This 5 lb tank came off of a weber grill where it was used for starting charcoal. The quick connect fitting is built right into the tank. The other end of the quick fit connection has 1/4 inch threads so I need to screw that into a female 1/4 inch connection with another female end that the Mr. Heater can screw into.

No, I have a flared end on my Mr Heater that has a male thread that are 3/4 or 7/8 of an inch that slip over the flared end that screw into the 20 lb tank.

I dont know about yours but on my sunflower that whole end screws off. The tube that the threaded part slides on unscrews and leaves a 1/4" female pipe thread.

Ya I was thinking of doing that. I tried to get the flanged end off last night like dozer was talking about but I wasn't succesful. It wouldn't budge. I brought it into work today to see what I could do in our mechanical lab and will be headed to the Hardware store at lunch.

I'm not removing the quick connect from the tank. I'm trying to add my heater to the other end of the quick connect which was connected to the weber. So I am trying to replace the weber grill with my Mr. Heater. If I have time I'll post some pics.

My next question is how are you going to keep the heater upright? Won't it flop side to side if it is mounted with a quick disconnect?

I don't know but it shouldn't be to hard to rig something up if it is needed. We had this 5 lb tank just sitting around at work and I thought I could put it to good use

I know that L & M in Cloquet has them in stock so if you get into a bind let me know and I can pick one up for you. They had both the male and female parts in stock.

Thanks Jim I don't know if I will need you're help. I am stopping at Range LP in Ely already to have them replace the on/off valve on my 20 lb tank so I'll call them and see if they have it.
