Hey Mr Kimm, in case you see this. Can you tell me when we can expect the Winter issue and also the "5th" issue of the mag? We subscribed for two years at the expo back in March 2008, but the last issue we have received is the Fall 2008 issue. I sent a couple emails to the office but they have gone unanswered as well. Thanks Rob.

Hi Guys -

Winter issue is coming out shortly.

Our planned 5th issue, which was to be an ice issue, kind of fell victim to the economy. Ironically, we had an ad close date set for that issue for the day after the Wall Street collapse. Not being sure where things were going to land we frankly didn't feel safe from a business standpoint sending the issue to the printer when we weren't sure if the ad $ was going to be there to pay for the thing. Maybe an overly-cautious move, but I tend to get cautious when I look at a $30k + printer's bill eek

With all the economic uncertainty in the industry (which has been hit hard by what's been happening) we decided to let the dust settle a little bit before we sent the next issue out the door. So we're coming out about a month late with our winter issue. Not something I like doing, but frankly necessary from a business standpoint.

We're still planning on doing a 5th issue this year (09) as of right now, and for those that subscribed in the last year or so we're just adding an issue on to the back end of your subscription, so you're still getting 5 issues for a year sub either way.

The winter issue is pretty cool by the way. In house, we're calling it the 'gear issue.' Tons of new product stuff from rods and reels to boat gear, electronics...all kinds of stuff. Plus some cool articles. Since we already had them produced, we're also adding on an ice section besides.

It's kind of interesting watching how the economy has affected the fishing industry this time around. This is my second major downturn in the industry (the first being in the late 80s and early 90s) and it's sort of fascinating watching how different companies react. Some go into the bunker and try to weather the storm by being very conservative. Others get really aggressive with marketing. I know industry-wide sponsorships of individuals and events have been scaled way, way back.

At any rate, that's what's up with EA. Thanks for your patience to those subscribers out there waiting on the next issue. If it's any consolation, I've been in the same boat since November... smile

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

No problems here Rob, appreciate the update. It's just nice knowing instead of thinking your mailman is stealin' the darn thing and you lay awake plotting how you can get him. Plus you feel like you can't live without the next issue 'cause you can't wait to see what's next. When you say coming out shortly, care to elaborate? Thanks Rob

Hey Propster -

Well, I hate to say it but the mail system is often a viable suspect. Amazing how many copies go missing when you mail bulk rate periodical.

As far as when: It's going to the printer in a couple days. Once the print run's done, it's kind of up to the distribution system for newsstand and mail. The way magazines get distributed is as complicated as the Italian railway system, and about as inefficient. Even after years in this business I still really don't understand how it works - heh. But at any rate - my guess would be mid-February or so hopefully.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Hahaha...thanks for the laugh Bigfish. Yeah, it is a sucky deal, believe me. But, sadly a necessary move. Look at it this way - you'll still have some time to make your shopping list before George's Expo. smile

This addiction is bad news - I ended up watching one of the EA Next Bite DVDs from season three again last night. I'm leaving town for an ice fishing trip this weekend and have already begun sharpening hooks and respooling reels - only 128 days to go!!!
