Lowrance Updates?

prov1900

Question

I have a 2005 model 111CHD and have never updated it. For the last few years I have been racking my brain and racking my transducer wondering why I lose depth at plane speed, especially in shallower water. Do the updates cover this? Anyone have any recommendations? I seemed to have read at one time on this site or another that the updates were a nightmare at one time.

Now that my 111 is "junk", I thought I would take the time to fix it. grin

The updates will not cure your problem of losing depth at speed. It could be a bad transducer, or could be that the transducer mount or angle of the transducer just needs to be adjusted.

I agree, start with the ducer mount, sounds like an installation issue to me.

If it worked fine and then stopped working fine, it shouldn't be the software since that didn't change. It could be something in the electronics, the mounting of the transducer, or the transducer itself. The last couple times this has happened to me it was the transducer. And I have another one that is acting funny or was when the water was still liquid.

Just explaining my remark.

I hear you. It has never worked right and have done several adjustments with the height of the ducer. The lower it gets, the more it seems to work, but it isn't 100%. For the odd 2K that I paid for that thing....well you know.

Try adjusting the angle of your transducer. Tilt the back down and the front up a slight amount - this will put it in more/better contact with the water while running. Depending on how your boat runs and how much stern lift you get that could very likely be your problem.

I would not put it past the software- I had a lcx 25, which worked great, updated software, same issues you are describing. You may have purchaced your unit with the same "series" software, I also had two friends with 332's that had the same problem. Down dated the software, back good as new. Now I am running the newest software in my lcx 111, and my lcx 25 with no problems what so ever. What version are you running?

What version are you running?

How do I tell? Turn on? Sorry, at this point I show my technological illiteracy. blush

If for some reason it isn't the software, are the updates worthwhile for any other glitch I may have and don't know about?

I would try the software update what can it hurt? I have had no problems with mine with the software I am running now. I don't know if it is the latest, but if it is not I have it, so you can downdate it if the latest version is giving you fits. If you try multiple versions, and are still having problems it may be the transducer.
