Vexilar jumpy display problem ??

Has anyone had a vex with the display that won't stay still?

On this one the bottom, or fish or whatever is on the screen keeps moving up and down around a foot or two. And I mean it really jumps up and down. Then every once in a while it will stay still like it should.

Anyone seen this or know what would cause it?

Thanks.

My FL 18 has done that since new. I'd be interested in opinions too. Only on BL mode, goes away on bottom zoom. How old is your FL8?

I bought it used, I've had it for 4 years and I believe it was at least a few years old when I got it. So I'd guess 6 years old at least.

The jumping on a FL-18 in the BL mode is due to the processor trying to average the bottom to lock it in, when a bottom huger fish is sliding in this may start the jumping to the next 1' level. The BL mode really should only be used on open water situations. Try running it on the normal mode and see if it does it then, if it still does it, ... then it is very likely the brush's.

Why for the FL-8 is doing this is a bit odd? It can possibly be a low voltage situation, check connections and be sure it is fully charged.... or the brush's are getting bad or dirty. My money is on the dirty or worn brush's.

You may wish to have it professionally cleaned and tuned up by the Vex tech squad. It will not cost much, like $60 +/- and it will be good as new again. You can get the service contact info off the Vexilar web site.

Just saw this as I was trying to figure out what was going on with my Vex 22! I sent it in for this exact same issue and got it back only to find out it is doing the same thing as it did before I sent it in. He changed out the motor and I think that is all he did. It is obvious to me, it wasn't the motor. I am afraid it will be going back AGAIN, tomorrow!!! I don't notice it on low power mode but on normal mode it is ridiculous! I have had an 8 and and 18 and never experienced this before. Maybe that is why they decided to do away with the 22. I am thinking, at this point, about getting a different brand. I hate to as I am a Vex guy for about the last 20 years!

Just a note to let anyone who is still having this problem to double check and see how their connection at the transducer is. I figured out my problem was a faulty or short in the new DD-100 that I installed. It was causing havoc with my display wanting to bounce up and down. Unhooked the DD-100 and all was good again. Vex has sent me a new DD-100.
