Tim, Timmothy, Timmy...

Recommended Posts

Well A good dose of insomnia combined with my 2 favorite pastimes(picking on Timmy and proving Timmy wrong) has me doing some research.

So Tim and I are chatting on the phone earlier and we end up talking about our new thornebros "quiversticks" and what reel we are gonna put on em. I already put a Pflueger Trion on mine as its the best reel out of probably a dozen diff ones I have tried over the years. Timmy says nah the spools are too small on the Trions im gonna put a Tica on it. Ok by me, I dont care if ya want to handline fish on one pound test crazy

So then im at gander with a giftcard from christmas burning a hole in my wallet. I had planned on picking up another Trion as I certainly need another one crazy

Well theres the Tica eyeballin me and DougE is always telling me how much he likes them, so to make a long story short it came home with me. The whole time im spoolin it up im thinking the spools are the exact same diameter. Well a few measurements later and they are actually identical...

Spool width is an inch and 6/16th aka -1 3/8th

p1222707bg6.jpg

Both are filled identical - as the eye can tell and the handy dandy caliper showed the same measurement on both spools...

p1222712ge9.jpg

Both reels are nearly identical in size and both weighed in spooled with line at 6.40 ounces...

Also im not impressed with the drag on the Cetus at all! Maybe I got a lemon? But she's going back...

Yep too much time on my hands but now I can sleep, lol...

And before anyone says it - NO, I do now work for any reel company and am not sponsored or "prostaff" for any reel manufacturers... I just like Pfluegers cool

So Timmy - your culprit for the bad memory on the line of your Trion is not a small spool. You either got a bad batch of line, its old line, was cold out and you hadnt used that reel in a while or something... confused

Greg - way to many names to remember. Next time I cant sleep at 2am i'll come up with a list. My inital guess is around a dozen...

Timmy - I didnt decide on line yet cuz the reel with the crummy drag needs to go back.

But im gonna put some 2# P-line on one spool and I have some 3# micro ice in red thats going on another spool...

DC...I am not talking to you for a month...you're grounded smirk

Such harsh words...I didn't like the drag on your last girlfriend, but I didn't take her back cry

I own 11 Ticas and only 1 Pfleuger...Huh???

I wonder why...I can't seem to figure it out yet wink

You really do like busting Timmy's chops...and you do have severe INSOMNIA!!!

DC...call me, I am at home all night with Lily. We are destroying the house again and putting it back together right before Momma gets home!!!! We are also eating Fluffer Nutter with our fingers and drinking milk right from the jug. It's nice when Momma isn't home crazy

ThunderChum - Gander had two levels of Ticas - one was 49 bones the other 32. I went bigtime...

AW - I must have had a lemon but that drag had two flat spots per revolution. It would pull nice and smooth(not as smooth as a Pflueger cool) then it would get harder. I aint fishing #2 with that...

My pile of Pflueger reels is bigger than yours, lol grin Actually about a half dozen ice and the same for open water plus 3 fly reels with no complaints...

Call you in a bit...

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
