Cecil
WASHINGTON, MO - On this week’s Bass Edge, viewers will see that there’s more than one way to catch big bass on Minnesota’s Lake Vermilion. Professional angler Jonathon VanDam joins host Aaron Martin in the episode to air Jan. 22-24. Bass Edge airs 8 a.m. EST Thursdays, 9 a.m. Fridays and 2:30 p.m. Saturdays on Outdoor Channel. "The Bass Edge crew and I had a great time filming the show up in Minnesota. Lake Vermilion is a world-class fishery,” VanDam said. “From the show you'll witness it boasts some of the biggest largemouth and smallmouth in the state." TonkaBass
I don't know if I would say some of the biggest smallmouths in the state, but that is my favorite lake.
Ray Esboldt
Agreed. It doesn't hold the biggest, but on the right day in August the dock fishing can be unbelievable. I am not the biggest fan of fishing docks, but when there's smallmouth there, it doesn't get much more fun than that.Sledneck knows where the biggest smallmouth are up there. I say we all show up at his garage door one Saturday morning this summer.
Cecil
Pelican it is, when do we meet him at his doorstep?Vermillion funnest most diverse lake in the state IMO.
Ray Esboldt
That's kind of what I think too, but he's never going to tell us. There are some others on the Range that have an awfully good "LM/SM and all bigguns" thing going.
Cecil
I have some friends that go there every spring and they catch double digit bass over 5 pounds easily. If you watch Al Linder and he is catching largemouth and smallmouth on the same lake, and it looks "up-northy" odds are he's on Pelican. He has said it's his favorite bass lake in the state. And you can fish it before bass season opens here.
TonkaBass
Maybe I'll have to make a weekend of it some time, I've never fished it.
Cecil
I've fished it once, but it was a long time ago. I know there are a lot of hazards on the lake.
TonkaBass
I rememeber staying in Orr one time while fishing a Vermilion tournament and being woke up every ten minutes from a train passing right behind the hotel. If I do go I'm sure if I'll stay there again, but I have thought about fishing Pelican in the past. I just need to get a little fire under my bottom to actually do it, plus some free time!
