VX-1 Interference...

Looking for a new flasher and it's between a VX-1 and FL-18. My reason for upgrading from the FL-8 is pretty much totally due to interference. The unit still works great and is fine for any panfish or walleye waters, but when fishing deep hardbottom for lakers it throws "cancer" into the water. My screen is still clear but everyone fishing with me using a FL-12, 18, or 20 has there screen light up like a christmas tree no matter what we do with the IR on each machine.

I know an fl-18 will work great for me, but I want to know how a VX-1 deal with vexilars and interference because I can pick one up for almost half the price of an fl-18 and they do the same things.

So... my question is for anyone with deep water(50 ft+)experience using a vx-1 around fl-12s, 18s, and 20s.

Sorry for the ramble...

The VX-1's work fine in 50'+ of water. It's very easy to get rid of any interference the Vex's may give off. Fact is the MarCum is better than the Vex's at getting rid of interference.

Im going to have to disagree.

I own a VX-1 and my dad owns a FL-18, I have used both extensively. I agree that the VX-1 would work well in 50'+ of water but not with several other units near by, the deeper the water the more interferance you are going to get on your display. I was currently fishing in 18ft of water with 3 other vexilars and the interferance on my display was horrible, my cousins and dads FL-18's had some but very little. Also when I fish with my dads friend who owns a very old FL-8 my VX-1 instantly becomes unusable. If I had to chose between the two I would go with the FL-18. Now I can't speak for the higher end marcums only for the VX-1. Its a great beginner flasher but nothing more, especially if you fish with several people that have flashers.

The older Marcum VX-1 has 6 steps of IR settings but, the newer VX-1P has 12 steps. If you're stuck on a VX-1, that's fine, but I would at least go with the newer VX-1P for the additional 6 IR settings. Plus, you get a case as well.

I got the vx-1 this year and I think the interferance rejection works great. It has all the features that the 18 does and it is way less. I have fished in the same portable as a vex and we got the interferance down to about nothing after about a minute of messin with it. good luck

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
