Chequamegon Bay

Recommended Posts

RascalP and anyone else that might help me. My wife and I were thinking of coming up to Ashland this week end and was thinking of bringing my boat up and going after some photo size small mouth. Would I be able to find some action? Where and how. I have never been out there before. I have a 16 ft Lowe, one of those semi V bottoms. I almost made it up last winter but got shot down at the last moment. I just gotta do it sometime.

Muskybuck, I don't fish the bay much after June. I don't imagine the fish go very far during summer months however. I would try all the areas mentioned in the thread, mainly areas around Ashlands abundant docks, piers, rocks, and wood.
Besides bass, walleye and other gamefish are there to be caught as well.
Hopefully others have beeen fishing the bay as of late????
Good luck if you decide to go!

Never been up there past the first of July. From what I here the smallies start spreading out to the deeper weedbeds. This time of year, I would try the deeper water (10-12ft) close to spawning grounds. If it's sunny and calm you may be able to see the weeds, otherwise pay close attention to your electronics. Crankbaits will find the active fish, then slow down with plastics or live biat. Let us know how you do.

Just realized this post might be too late. Oh well.
