tritonman
Well guys, heres how it went. After looking at the water the first day I got there and realizing there were millions and millions of bushes, I was going to try to find a different pattern than trying to fish those. The lake was up 30 feet so to get up to were the fish were going to spawn you had to go back through endless amounts of brush and everything has stickers! My boat got tore up! Fishing was very tough as most people were having a hard time putting a limit together. I concentrated on the southern end of the lake and found several rock points on the bends of the creek channels that were holding staging fish in 25 to 50 feet of water. I could easily put a limit together on these spots and knew that would be key. Most of the fish I was catching were between 5 to 8 pounds. I knew those fish probably weren't going to move because of the upcoming weather so my plan was set. A cold front moved in for the start of the tournament and I was pretty sure my fish would be least affected by it but still knew it would be tough. On day 1, I caught 8 fish between my two main spots with the biggest being seven something. I didn't have the weight I was hoping for but had a limit which was goal 1. I sat in 38th place out of the 203 pros fishing the event and with the competition down there I was alright with that. Day two brought with it even colder temps and I knew I had to just soak my spots for all they were worth. I put one in the boat in ten minutes and I was taking it off when my co-angler dropped in where I caught that one and picked up a six pouder. (That hurt a litte but I was happy for him and he was a great guy). I then went five hours before fish number two went in the box and that is how I ended. I was extremely disappointed since a small limit would have cashed a nice check, but if I had to fish it again there is nothing I would do different. Dang Florida strain fish are finicky! Out of the 203 pros only 76 brought in limits if that is any indication as to how tough it was. I ended in 101st place. All in all it was a great experience and I'm getting ready for Sam Rayburn in march.
