Muskie opener on LOW

Scoot

Recommended Posts

I am looking forward to it,although I will be up there the week after opener for Operation Muskie. Have never been up there that early in the year before (always July, Aug, & Oct). With the collection of talent guidewise, I am hoping that they can learn me some stuff! No pressure Jonesi!! laugh

Scoot, can I come along? j/k

Sabakong kicked my but on opener a few years ago. That can be a very tough body of water in June.

John, this might not be a trip for any sane man to go on- there'll be 16 of us and six will be 11 years old or younger. We call it the Father/Son trip and it's a blast! However, it's not a typical fishing trip for our normal crew- we do a lot more crawfish chasing, swimming, marshmallow roasting, etc. than most of us are use to on a fishing trip.

I've fished LOW many times in June, so I know what we're getting into. It's definitely a different ball game than it is in July, but we've had some good fishing in June at times. I've seen some tanks in June up there too, but never caught anything over 47 in the month of June. Maybe this year...

Indeed it is....I just booked a trip to Sabaskong Bay for the opener. Is the lake pretty nasty in June? I've gone up many times but not in June and this will be the first time with the Sylvan Backtroller in tow. Will I still be able to get out to Blueberry Island with a 45hp.?

Cheers,

-Jim

Jimbuck,

If you've been there in July or Aug, you know what to expect. The weather there is just like here in Fargo that time of year- rain tends to come as "all day soakers" instead of the hit and miss showers/t-storms we get later in the Summer. You'll be at the mercy of the wind, but that's always the case on LOW, regardless of what month it is. The water will be cooler and clearer than it will be later in the summer, but no big differences otherwise. As long as the wind cooperates, you'll be fine.

The nice thing about Sab and the Blue Berry Island area is that there is some good shelter from the wind. Of course it depends on which direction you are coming from and the wind also.

We had lots of fun in that area last year, caught a few ski's and alot of pike.

I never thought 8 days of pure Muskie fishing would kick my butt, it did.

Have fun-- T
