delta dude
Anyone use a 300wsm cal? Just got a new gun in that cal. and am wondering if I made a good choice. Hunt mostly deer in heavy woods. Gun is a Browning short- trac.
CodyDawg
Yep, shot an elk this year with one. Love it. Kick is not nearly as bad as I was led to believe.
DonBo
Might be a little too much gun for most deer hunting in a woods setting. I have used mine for that, but it really shines if you ever go out west. A great gun for bigger game at longer ranges like (as CodyDawg said) elk. Shot a big mule deer with mine in '07. Doug Smotherman
I kinda like the long action of the 300 win mag just feels good. 300 win mag is a time tested cal.
WaveWacker
Definately enough caliber as stated above. It'll be just fine.
Sarpy Creek Boy
I'm With CodyDawg, I just got a Beretta Tikka T3 in 300 WSM, and I don't even feel a kick. Everybody was telling me that after 8 shots my shoulder would be too sore to shoot anymore.. I think my 12ga kicks more...
CodyDawg
I got the Sako A7. Costs a little more than the Tikka, but not as much as the other Sako's. The big advantage was the bolt release lever which lets you unload the gun without taking the safety off.The long range shots are where it shines, however, my elk was a robust 160 yards away. I would say similar kick to a 12 ga.
Norsky
I recently bought the Weatherby Vanguard sub-moa in the 300 WSM. I love it. I've only shot it about 15 times, 14 times at the range and one kill shot on a doe ( head shot at 75 yards-it did the job to say the least). I'm going to try some 150 grain bullets instead of the 180's I have been shooting. The lighter weight will flatten out the trajectory quite a bit and might lessen the kick, although it's not bad at all really. I think it's a great, versatile round for any big game in North America and beyond (that's why I bought it).
