196thDLR
I really have to say that I do not agree that the GAME of Football is a war. Interviews players give to the news media consistently refer to Football as a war! Are there people permentently injured playing this GAME, YES! Are there people who play this GAME targeted for death? I very seriously doubt that! I would like to hear from Rocky Blier if he thinks the game of Football is a war. He served in war and was severly wounded wounded doing so. Some of the people he served with were not as lucky as he was. Their names are etched in a Black Granite Wall. I have had to get this off my chest; it has been eating at me for a long, long, time. Just so you know, I played the game in Grade School, JR. High, High School and College. I was drafted into the Army in 1967 AND found out what war really was!!Thanks for reading.
koonie
Never been in a war but it always rubbed me the wrong way too. Thanks for serving 196th!
Sandmannd
I don't like that term either. Never served, but didn't care for it either. Refering to the line battle as "in the trenches". It's no where near being in a war. Thanks for serving, and I agree with you for sure.
jbell1981
Come on, its a metaphore. I don't think anyone in thier right mind really believes its anything like war.
Sandmannd
I think everyone realizes it'a a metaphore, but it's a poor choice.
Windy City
If you want a little comic relief on the whole "war" theme of football you have to listen to the comic bit done by George Carlin about football vs baseball, it is hilarious! Check it out.Windy
riverrat56
I've got no problem with the saying "In the trenches" I don't think it refers to the trenches used to fight wars as much as it does doing the grunt work and getting your hands dirty. I have seen alot of football lineman wearing shirts that had construction equipment on them, that said Working the Trenches. Now "It's a war" like said, it's a metaphore, and I don't think it is that poor of one, it acctually describes it pretty well, two sides fighting for victory. Now I'm not trying to say a football game is a war, just that it is like a war. Without all of the horrible things that go on in wars. In saying that I have to thank all of the veterans who have served this country, with out you there is no football for us to even argue about!
