I understand that, maybe i worded the question wrong.

There are several diferent cone angles, 9*, 12*, 19* etc.

are they different angles because of the frequency? most 19* are running at 192 khz and 9* are at 50khz etc. ??

Yes, there is a difference. Take a DF Dual Frequency transducer for example. As a rule the narrow beam 200khz ducers are will give you better target separation but more importantly a more defined picture.

The 50khz wide beam ducer will handle clutter and salt water better but the separation and refinement of targets will suffer.

Both have their places and applications.

For the average fisherman the 50khz isn't really necessary. Its intended for deep water and or salt water. The Great Lakes for example, having a wider beam angle will show more suspended targets. Also when tracking downriggers that wider beam is helpful. The definition isn't there however.

Having two different frequency ducer or Dual Frequency will also enable you to use both in a split screen. I use a DF sounder and will run split screen but never the 50khz alone.
