Campgrounds on Muskie Lakes

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are looking to do some (tent) camping this summer. I was hoping that some of the Muskie fisherman might have some recomendations on campgrounds that are on Muskie lakes in MN, Canada or WI. We prefer the campground to be right on the water and keeping the boat in the water overnight is a +. Thanks

I know that Mantrap has one, Lake of the Woods has about 10,000 of them, just pick an island. We have a regular spot that we used to camp on when we were younger. Mille Lacs has a couple that you can use down on the south end of the lake...good fishing if it ever comes around.

Try the Chippawa Flowage in Hayward, WI. Thats where the world record muskie came from. Plus almost all the lakes in that area has muskies in them. Nameakagon Lake is also another premier muskie lake. Bring a gps on both of these lakes or you will get lost.

I know there is one on the east side of Bone Lake, in Wisconsin.

Bone Lake during the summer (particularly on weekends) is hardly a camping get-away.

Namakagon you won't get lost on as long as the sun is still up, but it can be a tough lake to fish, though I can all but guarantee you'll catch a lot of snakes if you decide to throw a 9" Suick.

Vermilion has several public campgrounds right on the water and you can also camp on many of the islands for free. The DNR campsites are shown on the Hot spots maps and also on the Lakemaster paper map.

All of the DNR sites are first come, first serve and there is no fee to camp there. They have tables and fire rings and some even have bear boxes for your stuff. McKinley park and Hoodoo point campgrounds are both locatd near Tower, on the east end of the lake.

I think that Vermillion is going to be the place. I've never been up there but the best Muskie fishing, the best golf and a really nice casino... Wow, I can only imagine the possibilities!!!!

The Campground on the SE side of mille lacs sounds like a sweet deal too.
