Jiffy question.

Question

I was cutting some holes and towards the end of cutting right before breaking through fully my auger hangs up. I chewed up a main gear yesterday and broke a tooth off I believe because of this. After getting things back together tonight I checked the bottom of the auger. It appears where the blade attaches that it is slightly bent and there is a slight stress crack. Can I heat this and pound it back? I figured I'd drop a bead of weld over the crack but wasn't sure if the piece is supposed to have a slight angle or lay flat. I suppose I could run to Gander and look at some of the newer ones but figured one of the FM crew could help me out. Anyone have any ideas or pics of the lower portion of the auger plate where the blades attach? Thanks.

Dude - bummer!

Could the stress crack have been there before?

Heating it and pounding it back could work, but would probably fatigue the metal and may not give the desired results.

Can you post a picture of it??

If the head is good, can you just get a new helix (auger bit)?

Good luck...

Thanks BigDS for the pic. I need to see the area right where the blade attaches to see what it looks like. I'll probably just take a run over to Gander today and see what it looks like. Anyone know what the helix would cost? Might be as expensive as just buying a new auger. I am gonna test drive mine today and see what happens. FFAL, yeah, it is a bummer but Richard(nonpowerword usage) at Trail cycle had the parts for it and I got it all put back together. I just don't want to fry another main gear because the drill catches because of the bit being bent.

I have had a Jiffy for 10 years know and this exact scenerio has happened to me. The area where the blade attaches to the bottom of the auger has been cracked or bent. Basically the angle of the cutting blade has been altered and it will not break thru at the bottom of the hole.

Here is what you have to do......Replace the bottom part of the auger. D-Rock center in New Brighton the the place to call. I have replaced mine twice. They run about $60 I think.

Hope this helps......
