Stupid battery question

I have an open water fish finder that I have converted for ice use. So far, I'm happy with the results. I got a battery for it yesterday, but Gander was out of chargers (surprise, surprise), and that brings up the stupid question:

Can I use my deep-cycle charger (for charging my trolling motor battery) to charge this battery? It's a 12v 8amp. The charger is a Minn Kota mk110p, if that makes a difference.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to electronics... figured I'd ask before ruining a battery.

Vexliar has a good battery charger that go's from red to green to let you know it is charged. good charger...

I'm no expert but i'm pretty sure that 8 amps is way to much for these types of batteries. I think the chargers made for these batteries are charging at a max of around 2 amps.

don't use a deep cycle battery charger, i made that mistake 3 years ago and ruined the battery, i had to drop it off at the hennepin county recycling center in a box because the acid was coming out the crack of where the top connected to the base.

go with a vex charger

Personal experience usually trumps theory. Thanks, I'll go with a vex charger or equivalant.

FYI, the charger that came with my VX-1P is a 500mA (.5 amp) unit.
