Steve Foss
Regardless whether one thinks the wolf should be revered or slaughtered, or somewhere in between, there are some simple realities.Go to www.wildlifenews.alaska.gov/pubs/techpubs/research_pdfs/techb13_full.pdf and download this case study. It's risky to say "wolves are this" or "wolves are that." The report is worth reading.
walleye101
Interesting read stfcat, but my concern is not about personal safety. While I have had some close encounters and it is a bit unnerveing to have a wolf nearby as darkness sets in, I do not seriously fear being attacked. I do have a real and justified fear for the safety of my hounds.

walleye101
Yes they often do kill dogs, but even more frequently kill hounds. Bird dogs tend to hunt fairly close to their handlers thus more opportunity to interviene (of course now that wolves are back on "the list" it would be illegal to do anything but watch fido get torn apart). Also hounds broadcast their presence by open trailing which will attract any wolves within hearing to the chase.
