0 muc33
I too am in the hunt. I can honestly say I don't need anything fancy like the sensor eyes or anything either. Just reliable open and close. bhs91 you must have been reading my mind.

0 Eric Wettschreck
I'm a fan of the gear drive units over the chain drive. Much quieter and less herky jerky.I have a double car garage with Stanleys on both sides. I'm happy with them.
0 Newcastle
Agree with boilerguy- Screw drive is a better choice. The problem with a lot of the chain drives is that the worm gear assembly is Plastic/Nylon. The motors rarely die, but that plastic gear grinds down over time. I don't think you run into the same problem with a screw drive-just keep it lubricated every year or so.
0 Eric Wettschreck
Plus, as I experienced on mine, the chain stretches.Go gear drive. The price is pretty much the same.
0 wood_dog
My Chamberlain died this winter after about 14 years. I picked up another Chamberlain (chain drive) and mounting it was a breeze, since the old hardware, etc. all lined up. That was nice, since it was below zero at the time. Just one consideration..... It wasn't a bad job, but if I remember correctly the part was around $25.
0 IFallsRon
I replaced a worn gear for under $20. Sears must have had a standard assembly for years as it came in a package with plenty of parts that I didn't use.My gear went south when a spring broke and caused the door to wedge in the opening and the motor didn't shut down until the teeth chipped off half the gear. 0 Sandmannd
Mine is under my bedroom (have a tuckunder garage). Really wish the last owner would have put in a screw drive. The train drive jumps you out of bed if you are trying to nap and someone opens the door.
