walleyeking19
i know a guy that loves to fish and is wondering if he can dump some rocks into a lake to give it some more structure. he talked to a guy that works for the county water patrol and he said he doesn't know why he couldn't do that and i can't find anything in the regulation book saying you can't. is it legal or not. slurpie
very illegal the DNR considers it polluting. If every guy that wanted secret structure did it we wouldnt have a lake left.
RiverBassGuy
highly illegal in MN. You would be charged with all removal costs, fined heavily, and possibly lose your liscense for an extended period of time!
SJU70
Hmmm...I have seen a lake right outside Albany that has Christmas trees sitting on it at the very end of safe ice season. And anyone who fishes Lake Erie in Ohio knows about the Cleveland Browns Stadium sunk three miles offshore...But if its illegal, its illegal. Sandmannd
I think if you go get some kind of special permission, you can do it. Other than that it's illegal. Pretty sure the Browns stadium was given the clearance to do this. For the Christmas trees, I'm not all the way sure, but I think they do a few lakes every year like that for some structure, but that's DNR mandated. RiverBassGuy
The Browns owners obtained a permit, they didn't just decide to dump it in lake Erie one afternoon. You can get a permit to fill or dig out swamps/private wetlands, but not a state owned lake.
Nick Kuhn
Depending on the lake it shouldn't be much of a problem to get a permit. If it lacks natural structure they'd be glad to see some added. They'll just make sure you aren't interfering with spawning habitat or navigation.I've built my own little pile (albeit illegally) pretty close to shore. A lot of gills hang out by it. jasondittrich
what about the stuff seen on bill dance? the pvc tubing. is it legal to put it in the lake if you take it out when you leave, like the structure on a string? even though we aren actualy talking about cover not structure, but anyway is it legal if you take it with you when finished? i have thought about setting structure on a string all around a permanant house for the entire season then trying to get it out before the ice melts. Deitz Dittrich
Hey cuz... the Bill Dance, its illegal too.. unless you have a permit! If you take it with you, I think you are fine.. but just putting someting in open water may or may not help you.... In the winer weeds die and there isnt much there. open water you are up against the real thing... which isnt easy!Anything, ANYTHING you put and leave in the water needs.. NEEDS a permit with the MN DNR.
Sandmannd
What Deitz said. Also with the reel weeds, you need to take them out when you are done. Can't leave them in all winter around your perm. Have to take them out when you leave for the day.
