So my buddies dog chewed through the cable go to my transducer on my FL8, and now I am wondering which transducer to buy?

I mainly fish walleye and crappie and generally do not go deeper than 25-30 feet. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

I would go with the 19 it's probably what came with your unit. That's my personal preference. But if you have a little extra jing then go 9/19 from what I hear the 9 in certain situations is a must have. The 19 was fine for me but I don't fish walleyes I accidently catch them. If your fishing tight situations, steep drops or structure the 9 has advantages.
When your ready to upgrade take a look at the LX-3 it's a truely remarkable unit.

For that depth and in like depths the new 12 will work well.

If you can spring for the duel beam, do so. It will greatly increase your abilities and options on a wider range of lake and river situation.

If you have the FL-8 SLT and do not think your doing to upgrade any time soon, consider adding a S-Cable for summer use and for winter use in weedy shallow water applications. The S-Cable also come in very handy after dark when the tiny critters pop out and clutter up the screen. You will gain a wider range of gain settings and this allows for better signal interpretation.

If your upgrading the FL-8 SE is a very good choice. Especially if a zoom feature is not anything your too concerned with.

I do notice it does pay to shop around when buying transducers from regional stores. I see some on-line outlets really have them market up, far above the price you get from the Vexilar direct. So be a wise shopper...snoop around some.

Remember some retailers will match or beat others prices. If you find a great price document the price and see if they honor it locally...worth a shot Eh.

I have an FL18 with the 9/19 transducer. The only reason I upgraded from my FL8 with the 19 degree transducer was because I started fishing some lakes where the perch and walleyes swim with their bellies right on the bottom. For water shallower than 30 feet, and fish that don't rub the mud, the 19 degree should do fine.
