CarlWBL
anybody ever use float n fly?
TonkaBass
honestly I haven't, but I always wanted to try it. Sounds more like a crappie rig than anything. Bassically a flu-flu type bait under a pencil bobber along a rip-rap shoreline (at least thats where I heard the technique originated).
Stick in Mud
They work well in rivers, but I don't know if I've ever done better on a float-n-fly than I have on other presentations. They are supposed to be for finicky fish, but I usually do better for these fish on finesse worms, little jigs/grubs, small senkos, or fake leeches/crawlers. Then again, it is pretty rare when the fish in the river are finicky.
YUM
from my understanding, with respect to bass, this is primarly a cold water technique, it is often suggested to be used in the winter months.. down south.

Neighbor_guy
I have used them with success on millacs and on stone lake in WI. Both the fly and the tecnique with a wacky rigged worm. They work very well when you cant raise them or get them to bite faster presentations.
