Boat Motor Oil

What kind of oil should I be using for my boat motor? I want to change the oil, found in the lower unit, close to the propeller.

I have a Suzuki Motor.

I use standard 80W gear oil. Others swear by synthetics.

My '57 15hp Evinrude's gears look like brand new, it's had regular gear oil for all of it's 51 years of use.

I just buy the regular lower unit oil at the boat shop or Fleet Farm. Has worked well since I've had my boat.

AMSOIL Marine Gear Lube has a capability that I have never heard of any other: it will tolerate up to 10% water and not loose lubricating/protection properties (more info at link). It is available in 13 oz tubes and in quarts.

I run AMSOIL lower and upper. And to make changing your lower unit lube easier than it already is, they have a handy pump you can buy for cheap, less mess.

Amsoil for me too. I have had good luck with Amsoil in just about everything I own now.

I would agree with all Amsoil product. This year we are even running the majority of their products in the modified race car. I have used it in cars, snowblowers and outboards, and my Nils.

I would agree the Amsoil products are top notch!! I had a bit of sticker-shock, though when I went to purchase a new gallon of HP injector, though...in 2 years the price has gone up 50% Couple years ago I was able to purchase a gallon at fleet farm for around $18...now it is $27...
