garage door opener problem

SCUMFROG

Recommended Posts

I have a Stanley quite glide opener. Lately it's been not working right, it seems like it's loosing power. The light will flicker on and off and the sensor for the door will make a beeping sound. Some times when I open it the light flashes. Also some times it trys to go down before it goes up. I'm not sure how old it is, it's with in ten years.

I checked that right away, it works. The eye beeps when I break the beam, when it does what it does the eye beeps but the sound fades away as the power drains out and the light slowly dims..

Yes, I checked the wiring also, it all looks ok. No loose conections or broken areas. Could it be the sensor going bad? I did tap on it when the light was out and it came back on and worked. Can I just replace that?

Did you watch the little red light while moving the safety sensor,if not move the opposite side of the sending beam,it should stay constant red, move it till it is off the (red light)them move it back till its on and press the reset button on the ceiling mount unit, start closing door and then break the beam and door should stop. You can also cross the beam wires at the ceiling unit and door should work.I yet think it could be the beam not aligned just abit off.

Another thing to do sometimes is to unplug the power cord and wait a few minutes, then plug it back in, I think it's supposed to reset the unit. Other wise junk it and get a whole new one, they aren't that much. 10 years is about the limit.

Not sure on what light is going dim?

Did you have a lightning storm lately?

Has the door become misaligned, possible from frost?

Disconnect the arm and operate the door manually, does it stick or bind in any spots?

Have you tried increasing the up and down pressure?

Are the close and open limits off?

Like Surface said, maybe the door is binding somewhere just enough to make it think there's an obstruction. I had a similar issue this winter, and I had to increase the closing force a little and it started working good again.

Some of those beams are deceiving, the red contact light can be on but not centered on receiver, just enough beam contact to light the light but not enough for the pick up to operate corrcetly, night vision optics could help if ya have a unit.

I've repaired a few and the hard to align I just took the sening & receiving units off held them bout 1 ft apart to see if the operated then if they did fine tuning I knew would be tough.

without seeing the beam its hard on some units.
