My rod lockers have some rod holders and rod tubes that the boat manufacturer built into them, other than that I haven't done anything myself.

But, one thing I am doing more and more of is using rod sleeves on my rods. Not only does it protect the rods, but it elimates tangles as well.

I will second the rod sleves. My rod locker does not have any kind of seperators so I have been dealing with a mess with 10 rods in there for a long time now. Every time I need a rod it's the same thing a tangle or the line catches on a guide or something to cause a slightly milder form of road rage(rod locker rage). I just bought some of the rod sleves and what a difference. No tangles and they protect the rods to boot. Easy in and easy out. I wont be without them again.

Check out this picture of my old 1750 Fish Hawk. You can see how I used PVC (painted black) as a holder for the butt end. I just screwed a cap end to whatever is the back end and then slid in a length of pipe to hold the rod butt. I did not use any glue so I could take them off if needed. The yellow straps are the Velcro tie downs people screw to their docks to keep extension cords in place. I picked these up at West Marine. I also had the same set up inside the rod locker.
