Rod size question?

In ALL seriousness, doe the size of the rod matter?

I do a lot of rigging and have the standard 6.5 ft rod. I have a lot of different rods for diff. situations, but nothing on the "long" side. I like it but wonder if a longer one would be better and more comfortable?

Also I fish out of a 185 alumacraft with high sides. I usually sit in the captains chair --

Would a longer pole be better here? Any and ALL thought would be great.

I do all of my rig fishing w/7 ft. rods. If I have a lot of line out in deep water, or behind the boat, you can get a better hook set. Just my preference, but it works great for me.

You bet size matters...but it really depends on what you are going to do with the rod.

For trolling situations you are able to get the lure further away from the boat.

for lindy rigging you are able to take up slack quicker

for casting you are usually able to cast further.

But all that comes at the expense of weight. Longer rods weigh more.

You brought up rigging.. my go to rigging rod is a 7'2"...

If you drag really long leaders lindy riggin a longer rod really helps at the side of the boat. I have rods up to 9 foot, my fav is a 7'4 inch md lt. I do like my 6' md lt for jiggin tho.

I actually jig with a 5'6" I think and love it -- but for rigging in a big boat I was thinking that a longer rod would be best.
