vexilar fl-8 sun shield

I made mine from a giant sized plastic soft drink cup from one of the gas stations. I spray painted it flat black and cut it to the length where the taper would fit over the Vex tightly, then gave the ends a wrap of electrical tape as reinforcement. Worked great until it blew away one day.

I also use the metal coffee can, fits perfectly. Paint it flat black and you are good to go. Here's the second tip. Take a pair of sheet metal snips and make some 1" cuts on the end of the can that DOESN'T slide on to the FL8, making small tabs. Very slightly bend these tabs in towards the center of the can. The cuts allow these tabs to overlap slightly, decreasing the overall diameter of the can. Then the magnifier will fit OVER the can that is OVER the FL8. Voila, a magnified sun shield! I use mine all the time. Works great! As long as you make the cuts short enough and don't bend the tabs in too far, friction keeps the magnifier in place and keeps the can on the FL8 without an issue. And it's too heavy to blow away. Also keeps blowing/kicked snow and other stuff from falling into the screen too!
