Cardinals sign Lohse - 1 year deal

Looks to be Kyle will be competing to be the 5th starter but probably more like long relief when all's said and done. Hope he has a bit left in the Tank until we get Clement, Mulder and Carpenter back.

Lohse, 29, has compiled a 63-74, 4.82 career mark in seven seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2001-06), Cincinnati Reds (2006-07) and Philadelphia Phillies (2007).

Lohse, 29, split the 2007 season between Cincinnati and Philadelphia, going 9-12 with a 4.62 ERA while pitching in two of the National League's most hitter-friendly ballparks. He went 3-0 down the stretch for the Phillies in 13 games (11 starts), helping them to an N.L. East Division title after coming over from the Reds in a July 30 trade.

I wouldn't under estimate Dave Duncan, he's taken many reclamamation projects and turned them around and taken serviceable guys and made them better, the lone failure that I can recall is Sidney Ponson. Lohse's curveball is the nastiest I have seen it..

Another rough outing for Lohse? Not to shabby for his 2nd spring start? He's keeping the ball down 8 ground outs to just 3 fly/outs. He left for a pinch hitter in the top of the 6th with 2-0 lead... Good job Kyle..

Kyle update - 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 k's and one walk. Kyle's pitched 12 innings so far and his era is .000. Congrats on your first win Kyle.

The right-hander added to the rotation's impressive run. Through the first six games of the season, the Cardinals' starters -- Adam Wainwright, Lohse, Braden Looper, Todd Wellemeyer and Brad Thompson -- are 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA and have 24 strikeouts and 12 walks in 37 2/3 innings.

Lohse bags another win for the Redbirds over the Giants 8-2, tough pitching in the cold winds in frisco. Kyle kept the Giants in check for 5 1/3. Pujols cranked a 3 run shot and added an rbi double. Lohse line not pretty but will take it.

That allowed Kyle Lohse to win for the second time in three starts. Lohse saw his season-opening shutout streak end at 15 1/3 innings, but still pitched well enough. He allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings and was helped out by two outfield assists at home plate in the fourth.
