Finlander
Was looking at the new power augers and I noticed the spendier augers have the handles coated with foam or rubber to insulate your hands while drilling holes. So i'me tinkin' to me'self and the light went on in my pea brain. I remember that I have some foam inslation for piping that is in my garage just collecting dust. So I went home at lunch time and grabbed that foam and cut the correct lenghts for each side, then took some two sided tape and put it on the handle. Then placed the foam insulation on the handle, then took some black electrician tape and rapped the tape around it good back and forth so the black tape snugged up good to the handles so the foam won't move. The foam inside diameter is 3/4"!I also replaced the broken T-handle with a D-shaped handle that you can put a glove or mittin through that cost me 4 bucks!Did that at lunch time! CNY Tim
Good work Finlander did the exact same thing with mine 4 years ago that's funny. It's still on today and never had to add any more tape.

End of the Line
Something else you can try is going to Menards, they have some stuff in a can for applying to tool handles that you can dip your handles in. Keeps they from getting slippery and helps insulate as well. I used to put in on downrigger weights to prevent that hard lead ball from scuffing and cushion it a little in case it ever hit the fiberglass. ------------------End of the Line ChartersLake Superior1-888-U-HOOK-EMwww.fishontheline.com
Northlander
Great idea Joel. Would that work as a small hole filler in my Otter sled?
Guest
I did much the same on my hand augers. Two feet of foam pipe insulation for 1/2 pipe secured every 4" with electrical tape.Except on a hand auger I placed the foam about half way down the shaft at the balance point. That way when you carry it you don't have to touch the metal. It helps when you tossing it over the shoulder too. I often hang a bucket on the auger handle offset when it is on my shoulder. The foam prevents the extra weight from digging in.You never have enough hands at first ice so that was my way of being able to drag even more "Stuff" with.------------------BACKWATER GUIDING701-281-2300[email protected]><,sUMo,>[This message has been edited by Backwater Eddy (edited 11-21-2003).]
