NorthernOutdoors
Hello everyone, I'm thinking about heading to northern MN to do some end of the winter lake trout fishing, and I need some help in preparation for the trip. I don't know much about lake trout so any tips on what kind of lures to use or what type of line (brand and lb. test) to get would be great. I've looked at a few lakes that are as deep as 100 feet. What depth would I want to start out at? Also, others have said to use minnnows or dried smelt for bait, and I'm curious about anyone's opinions on that. Any advice would be great. Ron Vroom
You've got less than week left to do it in MN because the season ends this coming weekend. There is a wealth of info on the BWCA-Duluth-Ely-Range forumn. Otherwise your only other option is Canada which remains open til next fall. fishermn
Laker season is open until sunday on lakes outside or partly outside the BWCA. Lakes entirely within the BWCA are open until the end of the month.
