shutterbug
How late do the ice fishing houses last in the season? I am a photographer looking to document the interiors of ice fishing houses and would love some advice. I am looking to travel to Minnesota at the very end of the month. Sandmannd
They have to be off the lake at night south of hwy 2. North of that they are up till the end of march. You will still find them out, but not in huge numbers. Probably find them during the day on the weekends though since we still have a lot of ice. eyebjim
They usually melt in april. They are off the lake as of 2-29 south of Hyway 2 and 3-15 north of that. I think LOW they can be on until the end of March. They can be used but can't be left on after these dates.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted March 7, 2008 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted March 7, 2008 A Correction to Sandmannd-I believe it's March 15th, not the end of March north of HWY 2.
Sandmannd
I think you're right Rick, I was thinking of LOW, isn't that the end of March?
muskyjim
i think the line runs duluth to moorhead. hwy 2 to 200 to 34 to 10.
tisosy11
LOW is end of march...the nicest houses are likely all off and don't go out much not with the late ice. Early to Mid april you are dealing with very unpredictable ice most years (this year may be different) but its not likely you will get a lot of shots.I would recommend coming back next year around the superbowl. Thats where you will get the biggest spread and best pics.
addictedjerry
a drive around mille lacs (or other bigger lakes) on the weekends might provide an opportunity to view the interior of houses stored for the off season.
hawkeye43
Mine will be out to pasture, but you are more than welcome to take pictures of it. Let me know what I can do. I know a few very nice houses people would be happy to let you see.
tisosy11
yeah - you likely won't find a lot of wheelhouses in one spot but you could check resorts for skid houses...good luck1
