Guest
Walleyes and crappies...I would go with the 1/8 oz Glow Devils and if you are targeting both at the same time. If just targeting walleyes the 1/4 oz are a good choice. The pink and glow red are good colors for crappies, and the walleyes like them all. Tipped with Bio Bait, maggots, or a minnow head and you're set!Good Fishin,Matt
beef
Jeff,Been out twice already. Used the 1/16 Glow Dev's and they worked GREAT. Used the Gold/Red and Landed many, many fish. Actually landed a 7# Northern and 5 pike in the 3-4# range on the same devil. I was truly surprised on how well the jig withstood the beating. Does Bluewater still have 1/16 left????? I'll give you a call on Thursday if your not too busy....Beef
Yellow Dog
Beef or anybody else - Perhaps a silly question - How do you keep the gators from cutting off your jigging spoon? Or is that just the way it goes?
Twitter
Yellow Dog,When I'm fishing for walleye's or pike I always use a braided line.....even pike can't chew through it If you get into a big'n with mono, keep the tension on the rig and hope you have him hooked in the jaw.....and hang on !!! Guest
You can also by thin wire to use as a leader. Sevenstrand makes 12, 18, and 27 pound stranded wire that is thin in diameter and doesn't have a negative effect on pike. Make a 8 inch leader or so and twist the wire around the eyelit of the spoon and you're good to go. Leave a slight loop type knot at the eyelit so you have the desired action. You could also use a small leader but the wire will work better. And the wire is less visible to walleyes as well.Good Fishin,Matt------------------[email protected]Catch-N Tackle and Bio BaitMarCum
beef
Yellow Dog,I was getting EXTREMELY lucky the other day. With the 1/16 spoon it is small but I was still using 6# test. Every Pike I caught was getting lipped hooked. I NEVER fish with anything heavier than 8 # Mono in the winter. Granted I do loose some nice fish, but I prefer to stay light and less bulky. On my tip-ups I run Mason 36# braided Dacron line but then I have a ball bearing swivel 3 feet of 8# mono going to the hook or quick strike rig. Scott Steil
The 1/16 ounce Glow Devils are sweet. Talk about a go to in a tough bite. For those of you that think they are to small for walleye, I would suggest you try them first.------------------Mille Lacs Guide Servicewww.millelacsguideservice.com
