MapCreate software

So I bought a Lowrance H2Oc and I see all this stuff about MapCreate. I am getting the lakemaster chip but what is it that this MapCreate software does? What can you do with it that you cant do with lakemaster and how do you use it? Is it worth buying?

It is not worth buying unless you intend to use the H20 for driving out of state. The mapcreate software for all of MN is on the lakemaster chip so you get all of the lake contours for MN and the roads, points of interest etc.

The lakemaster chip actually contains a lot of the information from MapCreate, such as roads and Points of Interest. MapCreate is a Topographic software, and it shows pretty much the whole world I think, at least North America for sure. You can then create map boundaries around certain areas, for example Minnesota and all its border states, you then save that to a blank memory card, and when you plug the memory card into your gps, the information within that map boundary you created will be on your gps. The point of creating map boundaries is to make a file that will actually fit onto your blank memory card, obviously the larger size memory card you buy, the more info you can get on it. MapCreate shows contours for a lot of lakes, but not even close to the detail of Lakemaster. I use MapCreate at work, but for my personal use with my H2O I bought the Minnesota Lakemaster chip, and I love it. So I guess it really depends on what you want to use it for. If its mainly for use in Minnesota for fishing and some navigation, go with the lakemaster chip. If you want to create custom maps throughout the U.S., then MapCreate is good. There may be more uses of MapCreate out there, i've only had the software for a couple weeks. Hope this helps.

Only MapCreate 7 shows lake contours. If you have any earlier versions you will not get the countours. I have version 6 and don't get any contours.

Mapcreate also has topo maps, but if you are planning on using them for hunting they are pretty worthless as the contours are only at 10 foot intervals.
