2008 Dunk Contest

Gerald Green, the T-wolves 12th man, is the defending dunk contest champion.

But you heard it here first, Jamario Moon is going to win that baby. Rudy Gay is getting some help from people on YouTube for creativity, but nobody has the hops and invention like Moon.

The dunk contest is probably the best skills competition side activity for all the pro sports all-star games. I can remember Dominique versus MJ, Spud Webb, Vince Carter, Larry Nance, Dr. J.

I also enjoy the 3 point shooting contest just to see how well those guys can shoot it. If I had form like they did...well, let's just say I would be in the NBA long enough to finance my hunting and fishing lifelong retirement. I enjoyed the first competition in 1986 when Larry Bird walked out to shoot and told the rest of the guys they were playing for 2nd...and proceeded to back it up. He would win 3 in a row.

I liked the dunk contest with the rules from back in the day when it was Jordan and Nique........the way they have structured the contest the last 5-8 years has been horrible at times.......like the year they gave them each like 1:30 to come up with the best array of dunks???? There are definatley some good jumpers in the NBA and if they could get the best 8 and go froom there the contest would be alot more appealing......Just imagine having Carter-Kobe-Richardson-Lebron added to the contest then it would be a must watch....instead I will tape it and FF through it...........

It's kind of sad that the big names don't get in it anymore. There afraid if they lose it will hurt their image. I did like the one year when the "bird man" Chris Anderson was in it. He was my pick to win it that year. He had great hops for a white guy. 3-point contest is good also. Jump shooters won't win because it takes to much energy over that length of time. Your set shot guys will win. Didn't they get rid of the dunk contest for awhile and go with some shooting contest with the WNBA?

When you're that high up and you throw it DOWN at the hoop, I'll count that as a dunk anyday! Wow!

Impressive dunks, no doubt. I don't care if he is almost 7 feet, that dude can GET UP! He should have saved his "sticker dunk" for this year's contest. Bron-Bron had a nice dunk before the end of the all star game.

I also have to give G.G. credit for the blow-out-the-candle trick. In other years that might have been enough to do it.

Looked like a fun weekend, interesting to see T.O. play in Friday night's game...2 weekends, 2 all star games to participate in.

gerald green was higher on the "birthday cake" dunk than howard was. howard simply had to be the height of a basketball over the rim. gerald got up so high that he could have touched the top of the backboard. his head was as high as howards extended arm during the superman "dunk"

howard should have received 0 points for that

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
