Chainsaw flooding?

OK, I have one of those cheap throw away saws that I got at a very cheap price. I know the story of you get what you pay for and all that so please take it easy on the tongue lashings guys.

The saw is the highly touted Poulan Wild Thing with a Walbro WT324 carb in it. The saw seems to be flooding itself out very quickly; a few pulls and there is no chance of it starting, no choke at all. Pull the plug and it’s wet; clean up the plug and pull the cover and air filter off and let things dry out a bit and it will usually fire up. Basically have to have the throttle going the whole time though to keep it running; let it idle for a moment and it dies and we’re back to a flooded saw.

Is this just screaming for a carb kit and a good cleaning? Could it be caused by weak spark?

If you pull the carb apparty there is what I would call the "needle" that moderates the gas flow. It is probably a little gummed up. If you can just get it loosened you will probably be alright.

Yep, the inlet valve is letting gas by when it shouldn't be.

Do a cleaning and new kit and you'll be good to go.

Also, that carb has a primer bulb. I'm not sure if it uses a return line or not. If you have one without the return line, that bulb assembly, if faulty will put the lift off pressure on the inlet valve and not release that pressure. End result is flooding.

So my next question is, when you press the primer does it stay hard or does it release that pressure? If it stays hard its the primer bulb.

Be sure to check the height of the little lever that sets on the needle, if it is too high it touches the pulse diafram and holds the needle open and floods the engine.

Yes, it has the primer bulb that has the line going to the tank and the line going to the carb. The bulb appears to always have gas in it and when I push it it comes back out (if that's what you meant).

I would also switch to amsoil sabre for your oil mix.

TRITC, yes that sounds right about the primer bulb.

A carb cleaning and kit is what you need.

efgh, mentioned the setting the fuel level, the tang should be flush with the floor of the carb body.

Got a carb kit from D-Rock for $11 and put that in last night and things are all good again. AMS oil was already started; switched to it about a year ago for all my toys.
