robert1965
I have a garmin etrex legend cx. that does not accept navionics, or lakemaster, software. only garmin software, I mainly fish lake of the woods. the garmin software I have covers the lake, but stops at kenora at the beginning of the winnipeg river. I want the most recent software with more coverage. do I stay with my garmin, or do I move on to something better. thanks robert1965
BobT
I'm not aware if Garmin offers any Canadian contour maps for their GPSs. Did a quick search on their HSOforum but found nothing for Canada aside from roadmaps. Bob
jerkin'm
I have the Canadian Garmin topo software and it's super accurate as far as land contour and islands and such on the lakes...Can't say anything about Navionics as I don't have it... cedarnarrowsguy
I have the Navionics Premium chip. It has great detail for LOW and Rainy. However, if your looking for something on remote or smaller lakes in Canada, I suggest Garmin with the Canada Topo chip. (It shows land contour, and the name of the lake, but not water contours.... BobT
I searched their HSOforum yesterday and didn't find any software that offered Canadian lake contours. Is this a third party product you are using?Bob
AaronM
I also have the Etrex Legend and use Garmin's Hot Spot MapSource to go along with it. It really can't compare to the Navionics or LakeMaster chips that other units use, but it still is pretty good software. If you have the money, opt up to a H20 with a chip. If you're looking to stay with Garmin, get the MapSource software. I know mine has kept me from being lost and brought me home at night and in foggy/raining conditions. No matter what you decide, any GPS that can do that is worth it!
