Fishhouse TV options a year from now...

OK, so a year from now the decades-old 12-inch b/w AC/DC TV that I've used for 13 years in my fish house will no longer work thanks to the Digital TV revolution. Judging by the number of antennas I see on houses around mine (on ML) I'm not alone. What are people going to do for TV-watching after next winter? (Come on, you can't beat jigging and watching football playoffs at the same time!) Is it dish-TV only? Is there an affordable digital 12V TV? Or is this my excuse to finally buy that Honda generator? Any and all ideas are welcome! Thanks. Herm

Herm, if you really want to hold onto that old TV they will sell you a converter for your antenna plugin and you don't need to have a digital tv. But if you are looking to upgrade there are way too many to mention here.

Welcome to the forus also!!

Put up a UHF antenna to receive digital channels, get a digital TV, and hope you can get a good line-of-sight with the transmitting antenna which will need to be less than 60 miles away.

If you don't want to get a new digital TV, then you'll have to find a 12VDC converter box that will change the signal from digital to analog. I've read they exist, but have not seen one personally nor know how much they cost.

Welcome to Fishing Minnesota!

Just chiming in as a question arose reading this post.

Currently aren't the networks just transmitting out of their hubs in the larger metro areas?

Will they be adding more of these transitter towers to be able to cover more than 60 miles?

Now with that line of sight thing, that will (might) cut into some viewing areas.

Is it assumed that if you can receive analog signal, that you will automatically be in range for the digital?

Satallite has more variety anyway grin.gif

Yes and also affiliates across the state.

Most likely no.

Digital broadcasts are more sensitive to direction and aiming the antenna is very important. You will pick up analog signals much easier than digital and further away from the transmitting antenna as well.
