plastics - storage ?

ok so I'm getting more and more into using plastics for ice fishing, and even open water.

My question is storage?

what I do now is:

* I put most plastis that aren't in some form of a liguid into a plastic tackle containter.

* the stuff in jars and bags that have liquid I just keep in the pag or jar.

Question - is what I'm doing ok - can the liquid stuff also go in the tackle containers ( so out of the liquid packageing ) - can they be intermixed in the tackle container, will the sents get screwed up ??????????

what I would like to do - is put everything in tackle containers and have NO jars or bags, is this a possible?

What do all you do ???

Reele---I do pretty much as you do.. I have a tackle box that is only for plastics. Keep the seperated as much as possible as colors will fade. Try and keep them flast as they can pick up a kink as well.. I myself dont buy the stuff that is in liquid.. as then I dont have to deal with that.. LOL.. call me lazy!

Lisa,

That is also what I do. I figured if they weren't meant to be stored in their own bags than why did the mfg put them there in the first place.

Reele,

As for the baits in the liquids, I assume you would be talking Gulp. That stuff needs to stay in a sealed container as it will dry out.........and then becomes unusable.

jpz - thats what I assumed, I've had the spill and came back to find them all dried out.

DD - I sort the same way you do grin.gif So then you don't use any of the liquidy stuff huh ? other stuff work just as well ?

Lisa - I started out keeping everything in its original wrapping but that was apain in the rear \:o so took a chance on the tackle containers, much easier!!!!! \:\)

I will take my gulp products and toss them into the gulp "alive" liquid container and they have been fine using them over and over. One thing is dont let the liquid freeze. Take gulp products inside when it real cold. Otherwise they will freeze solid and the Alive liquid will freeze up and crystalize. I found this out the hard way at Burntside. Had to get the Alive container hanging over my heater to thaw it out.

Yes the Burntsied lakers like the Alive Smelt. I hooked 5 on them. Walleyes also like them. I dont know if its any better than the Power Baits because I catch fish on both but I sure do like the scent it gives off.

Lets face it confidence goes a long long way in fishing. I have caught fish (gaining confidence)on the Gulp Alive and power baits so it gets on my hooks often. If you have confidnce in a bait it will be on your hooks more often and you will catch more fish on it.

Plastics have imporoved my fishing. At times I will "piggy back" plastics and live baits. Adding more scent, bigger profile and being able to slow the drop rate can often times put more fish on your hooks.

Play around, catch a few fish and get some confidence and you to will be using more plastics. Hard and Soft water.

just to add another $.02 ! grin.gif

as i don't have tons of plastics,( this is open water only !) i keep mine in zip loc snack size storage bags. i only carry 10-20 pc of each type. these bags fold and store so much easier than most of the plastic bags they come in. then i keep these in a plano box/boxes. only don't mix colors! and don't mix brands either!( i did this and ended up with a BIG gummy mess! mad.gif)

i use plastics til they aren't useable any more. this may be for one fish, or several. del

Flambeau makes a great tackle box for your micro jigs & plastics. Checkout the Blue Ribbon Fly boxes. The model I have - half it can be used for holding your jigs securely, the other side has small compartments for holding your small plastics. Keeps things very organized in a small container. Works much better then having to dig through a bunch of plastic bags. They have pictures on their HSOforum - and at Dick's.

Recently I put my Little Atom plastics in very small Ziploc bags (you can find these at craft stores). Then I organized all the small plastic bags into a bigger one(not really big). Hoping to expand on this idea in the future. The idea is to have one bag for Little Atom plastics, another for Custom Jigs and Spins plastics, another for Maki plastics, etc.

I store most all my plastics in Plano trays.. Carrying a variety in a tray each time on the ice.. But this is mainly for back-up.. For my main supply, I use Tackle Pouches from Todays Tackle.. I put a few of my main colors of each type of plastic into seperate pouches.. These are then thrown into an upper pocket of my Ice Armor Jacket.. Slick way to stay light and mobile while hole hoping.. If you run out, just go to the plano tray and re-stock..

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
