grizzald
Does anybody head up to theses lakes in Manitoba? This spring will be my fourth year and I cant wait. Lots of big fish.
Canuck
Fished Reed last March on the ice. The slush was horrible but the Northern sure made up for it. The slush I am told is not usually that bad, we were able to get around but by mid day U stayed where ever U were. Our intentions had been to go for Lakers but they were not co-orporating so we switched for pike and had a blast. Like U said, Lots of BIG fish. Reed does have Lakers and I have heard guys do get into them in the summer and the walleye is also quite good but if I was going again I would strictly target the pike, it was that good. I used to live in Northern Manitoba but have no idea where Iskwasum Lake is. Maybe it is know up here by some other name.
dirtking
I have fished reed a well over a dozen times. Lots of big fish - Best I have seen is a 47" Pike and a 31" pickerel. We have also gotten into some lakes but nothing over 15 lbs. We are taking about going up there this 4th of July but it’s between that and a fly in trip - either way is great!I plan to get up there winter fishing some year - I am thinking a guy could pull a wheel house and stay at the landing and bring sleds with to go fishing. Thats the goal at least.
gatorhunter
Reed conditions are already better than last year with respect to slush. Haven't heard any fishing reports yet. I don't know anyone who ice fishes Iskwasum. Certainly popular come June.Peterson's Reed Lake Lodge offers insulated cabins for winter anglers. They're $55 CDN per night per person. I'd rather do that than tow a wheel house all the way up there.
dirtking
$ 55 whoa - thats pretty reasonable! I'm in agreement with you!
grizzald
Canuck, Iskwasum is part of the Grassy River just like Reed is. If I remember right, Iskwasum is west of Reed about 10 miles if my geography is correct. They have camping there and they dont open there summer fishing till the first of June. Have caught a few real nice northerns (38 inches +) out of there. Also have got into some decent walleye action.
grizzald
Dirtking, when you talk of other lakes are you talking about ones close to Reed? We have got up into Jackfish the last three years, first two years were awesome but this last year was very poor.
puddleduck
Expensive digs at Sioux Narrows or expensive gas to Reed. Hmmm. So, dirtking, I can see another trip coming up for you.
dirtking
Better late than never (my response) - Puddle Duck - yes it is fun to dream up new trips and Reed Lake ice fising would be one of them. Grizz - I meant "we have gotten into Lakers" not other lakes. I have heard of people heading to Jackfish, but Ihave never left the big lake while up there.
