MattNy
I'm thinking about buying a gps. I like to hunt and fish so I've narrowed it down to either the lowrance ifinder huntc or the lowrance ifinder h2oc. which one do you guys and gals think is a better unit? 0 BobT
I don't know much about Lowrance GPS but from little I've read, both will be of equal value. I believe they differ primarily in how the features such as waypoint markers and such are geared either toward hunting type icons (HuntC) or fishing type icons (H2OC). There are others that are far more knowledgeable about Lowrance than I. It does seem that Lowrance is the hands down favorite among FMers though. Makes me wonder what kind of crowd I'm in here. Bob Edit: I'd offer you my recommendation but I don't want to start another GPS war.
0 Central Bassman
The hunt has a mp3 player on it also, The hunt has a few more extras but if you ask me the H20 is they way to go!!! Lowrance is the way to go thats why you see so many FM'ers using them
0 L_Cappo
you can change your icons on the h20.
0 jwhjr
I've had good luck with my H20C, and as stated you can change the icons for your waypoints.
0 CrappieAttitude
I know that the HuntC has more bells and whistles geared to hunting than the H20's. I use my H20C for hunting and it has worked great. I save my stands with the deer stand icon, and my kill sites with the crossbones. I believe one benefit that the Hunt has over the H20 is the electronic compass. For those that have units with this option, they can't say enough about them. Can anyone confirm this? You are going to have to see really what you are going to "need" in a GPS. Every year there will be new products that offer new features, however most often than not people pay more for those "options" and end up not getting there money worth, because they don't actually use them. Good luck with your search. CA
0 BobT
Like I said, I know very little about the differences. I will agree with the electronic compass. I know that even though I wouldn't consider going to Lowrance if and when the time comes to replace my GPS, my plan has been that I will upgrade to a unit with electronic compass. It is especially handy for hunting when you are more likely viewing it while standing still. Without electronic compass your handheld doesn't know which way you're pointing it so direction is not valid unless you're moving. Not that I have anything against Lowrance because I don't but I have had such good performance from my GPS and experienced excellent service and so I am now partial. Not only that but I have too much companion PC software to go with the brand I use that it only makes "cents" to stay with that brand.Bob
0 NELS-BELLS
I have a Magellan Platinum with electronic compass. I use my GPS alot for fishing, hunting and just driving in my truck. I have only used the electronic compass a couple of times. I bought it thinking I would use it all the time and I don't. It also has a built in baramoter, I believe, and I've never used that. Just my 2 cents.Nels
0 Northlander
H2OC if you use it mostly for fishing. If hunting get one of the Lowrances with the compas. I think the hunt and the Expedition have them.Color makes it much easier for me to read. Others have had problems with color in the sun. I havent found it any worse than the mono model I had. 0 Dan Brelje
Here is my $.02.I currently have a H20. For what i (college student) use it for it works great. Hiking, fishing, driving, etc... Didn't have the $$ for the color and didn't find the need for bells and whistles of a higher end unit.My father has the HuntC. Great Unit, but often takes extremely long to find satellites and the screen will go goofy every once in a while. He returned his original and recieved a second one from Lowrance, but has had the same problems. My Uncle runs with the expedition color. I Love this unit. If I were in the market again i would buy the ExpeditionC in a heartbeat. Its a lot like the H20 with the extras. If you spend a lot of time moving really slow or at a stand still i would highly recommend a unit w/ the electronic compass.I would take a strong look at Lowrance. Map card capabilities are great too!!!
0 anyfishwilldo
I have the H2O C, and love it.
0 jigeye
I owned a H2O for about a year than sold it and bought the Ifinder Explorer because of the electronic compass. I would highly recommend a unit that has it. You will find that without it you will loose the orientation when you are sitting still or moving very slowly. Go with the Hunt.
