ikeslayer
Thinking about picking up one of the new fish t.v by nature vision. Does anyone know anything about them? i never plan on putting through the ice so would i really need to spend 200 more for the spectra? lighting strictly open water for this guy. Just wanted some advice. ike
Deitz Dittrich
Ikers! I'm on the nature vision staff. And can answer most questions you have about the units.. jpz is probably better as he works directly with Naturevision ...If your only going to use the camera during the day, then there really is no need for the Spectra Response lights. However, I think if you are willing to spend a few more dollars, you get quite a bit more product if you go for the Scout XL-50. Its a larger screen, has a better camera, better cable, better battery. The ability to record. Just all around better in my opinion.. I thing the Scout XL-50 is right about $200 if I remember right. The Fish TV, is a decent unit IF.... IF you run it off of a back up energy sorce. Other wise it runs off of like 10 C batteries or something like that. .which could get expensive. JP Z
ike, As Deitz said the FishTV is a great unit, but for a bit more the XL-50 is the way to go. And you even get a free Ice-Pod......woohoo
Nick Kuhn
Deitz, most likely it's 8 C batteries (12V is a standard voltage to use, 15V is not, and most likely would be regulated down to 12 if that were the case, then again 10 might just be compensation for when the C battery voltage drops allowing from +15V down to +12V to get a little extra life of the batteries). It wouldn't take much to custom wire it to a large 12V battery. Probably wouldn't do much for your warranty but I doubt they'd notice if you did it correctly. Deitz Dittrich
Yes it is important to note that when you buy the fish TV it comes with the power cord adapter...

ikeslayer
Well this is a bit of a post kill but i just bought an Aqua view scout XL-50 They were on sale at Cabelas for 179 and i 200 in points a bit of a no brainer. Thanks for the info though fellas. i like buying stuff once and having it good and not twice wishing for the upgrade all the time. My logic was that if the water were murky i was going to be without sight and then my camera would be useless too me. I fish lake zumbro alot and that is murky most of the time. Thanks for the help fellas ike
Deitz Dittrich
GOod call Ike... its a much better unit.. and not a post killer! it may not work best in murky waters.. but I still use it to see bottom content... even in murkey waters you can still see a foot or so..sometimes more.
