Nice, people just don't let them grow long enough to reach that size anymore. When I was young and crappies were still rare in our lake those that you caught always seemed to top 12". 1 in 100 top 10" nowadays, it's just not the same.

thanks all. just for the record, we arent fish hogs, ive personally released at least a dozen 12 inchers this year alone. but 16 felt like a once in a life time crappie. now im hoping my favorite little pond wont completely winterkill. that would be soooo sad!

Lets hope that doesn't happen. I guess if there is one thing good that comes from the winter kill is how fast the fish grow that are left. That sure is a pig.

yeah my favorite little lake has big crappies in it for that reason alone im sure. That big guy came out of a different eagan lake that to my knowledge doesnt have a problem with kills.

Its been OK. Buffalo is getting pounded like normal. I got my biggest eye out of there this past weekend (avatar) at 22" but that was mostly it. Plenty of small crappies tho. Some guys say their catching some nice fish on other lakes but I've yet to experience that.

Thats a nice eye though! just checked your lake on lakefinder. definately seems to have a decent walleye population! my best eye of the winter so far was 21" out of white bear. they are just so much fun to catch! they are so highly sought after, it makes it so rewarding to get into them! How far are you from the metro area? pardon my ignorance, been all over mn, but not to buffalo!
