Pikemaster101 Posted January 13, 2008 Share Posted January 13, 2008 Working on replacing the back U joint on the front drive shaft of my 2001 Silverado took the drive shaft out from under the truck but now I can not figure out how to get the U joint off the drive shaft any one have any suggestions? 0 Jeremy airjer W Posted January 13, 2008 Share Posted January 13, 2008 Does that have the two u-joints (dual cardan) setup? If it does a trip to a machine shop may be the best.If not, typically they inject a urethane into a passage to lock the u-joint into place. you can see the spots on either side of each u-joint where it has been injected. A torch will be required to melt the urethane out of those passages so that the u-joint can be removed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
0 icefishingdude Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 I'll second airjer, all the trucks I have owned ('97 F150/'97 Silv/99 Silv)have been single U-joint vehicles(well each end of course, so 2..but, anyways) and have required a torch and a hammer.
