If the longrange forecast holds true we're going to have our ice back by next weekend in many places and the big lakes that still have it will be solid enough to take out the quad. Maybe get some tasty mercury laden walleyes at the Great Sacandaga in another week.
HardWaterChef
I'm down for some Mercury...maybe it will trigger a flashback from some of those Knickerbocker Dead/Brent Mydland shows.I am still up for one of your offers to "The King". I know we can't predict the Ice...but Todd and I have talked about a 2 day trip out to fish LG with you. I have the Students back in a few weeks so a 2-3 week heads up during semester would help out greatly. I would also like to get some info on lodging from you that is in that area. I could book a room in advance so I don't have to worry about it when the time comes.Look forward to it...it's been a while since I lifted some Lakers from the lower fathoms! CNY Tim
Doug - What can I say other than welcome aboard! Reubens are my favorite and the ones with pastrami that you brought us on the ice were delicious... Were heading northeast Saturday in search of ice. John, Todd, and T-N-T. Shoreline could be a little hairy after the rains but I think will be o.k. since the Curoga event is still a go the ice must still be doing well in the dacks. Anyways welcome to the site and will give you a hollar and let you know what we find. John I'm bringing a LX-5 for you to play around with out there, a little tutorial and in about 10 minutes you'll have it mastered.

It's been a while since I had a good ole fashioned flashback I saw the JGB at the Knickerbocker somewhere around that time but I missed the Dead there. The KING awaits us and hopefully will be ready by early mid February but we need some arctic air and calm winds to come in first! Lots of lodging available. HardWaterChef
Great...thanks John...sound good!I am going to a small private lake/pond, not too far from me, this weekend. A fellow Ice Head has been doing pretty good the past week. He said the ice is still 5-6 inches with only a little water seperating the shore from the ice. He has been getting some nice 10-12" Callies and some 'Gills with the infamous Shoulders/Humpback. That's what I like to hear. It'll give me a chance to play around with my new shipment of Plastics.Oh Todd, I am stopping by Lyin Hatch's today and relieving him of ALL of his Willow Leafs...so I will have a few for you and Timmy when I see you next. HardWaterChef
Fellow Ice HeadsOtis(Aaron) and I have known eachother for about 25 years. We went to school together back in the mid 80's. We can tell you a few stories about fishing together. We used to ride our bikes down to the Creek in Canastota and pretend we were Trout fishing. Well, we were fishing, just not for Trout. We used to hammer the Waldos when they were running up the creek to spawn. I would safley say we have had 100 plus fish days, each. We never went to the extent of keeping all those fish, but it was tons of fun.Dark Cloud...I am the Executive Chef at a restaurant called The Copper Turret. Morrisville University is an affiliate. We have a classroom and lab kitchen in the restaurant as well. So, during semester I run a full blown restaurant for the General Public and I teach as well. I tell you what...Ice Fishing is a great way to escape my fast paced/never dull job.Timmy showed me some of the Ice Rods you built for him (I think that is what he said) Those suckers are awesome...do you make them to sell or is it just a hobby? I'd be willing to pay top dollar for a few Custom built rods. If it is just a hobby, I completley understand. You have a great talent there besides fishing. Keep up the great work. Dark Cloud
Chef - rod-building is more of a hobby, I have sold a few. No gaurantees for this year but maybe for next season. I have too many hobbies to build much. Im finishing up two ice rods now(one for some yahoo named Timmy) and got a flyrod in the works...I have about 10 years cooking experience and ran/co-owend a restaurant for 5 years. At one time I looked into culinary schools and sometimes I kick myself for not doing it. Tonight I made fishcakes with fresh caught trout and crab meat that came out pretty darn good... HardWaterChef
Thanks DCThe business is fast paced and never dull. I used to get stressed a long time ago, but now I am as cool as a cucumber in the heat of battle. I'm sure we will chew the fat about cooking someday while we fish. Good luck to you in your fishing adventures this weekend and leave some fish in the water for the rest of us.DW
Otis1
Man, remember those days! Havent seen Walleye fishing like that in 20 years! That was FUN!!! We need to hit the ice once it shows itself again.
HardWaterChef
I just got back from a lake in Chenango county and there was 5-7 inches of good hard ice with no water on top!I am going back this afternoon to set up for the night bite. I only fished this morning for about 20 min. I had to come into work. I did ice 2 Callies, 2 'Gills and 2 dink perch. It has signs of potential. I will post tonight. Todd and I are heading out tomorrow if I do anything later tonight.DW
Dark Cloud
Chef - I talked to Timmy last night and pieced together who you were from that other site. That lake you were on we fish. It's usually a drill a ton of holes and keep moving spot. If the fish are active like at the end of the day you can sit in one spot and pull fish. Sometimes they are in the basin, on the edge, or even up on the weed-edge...He said you and Todd were maybe gonna hit it tomorrow. We tossed around the idea ourselfs... HardWaterChef
DC...why don't you meet us down there. We are going to get there around 10am. I fished it today. I got a bunch of Callies and some "Gills. The bite was nonexistent after dark...Huh?
