Kawasaki ATV won't start

Flash

Question

I have a 2005 Kawasaki 700 Prairie and when I try to start it with the electric start it cranks and cranks but won't start but then you use the pull cord and it starts right away. What could be wrong?

Thanks,

My Kawasaki 1100 motorcycle did the same thing sometimes. What I did, was check for spark when cranking. I found that I had very weak if any spark when cranking with the starter. If I gave it a jump start it would fire right up. The battery was old and did check out poorly so I replaced it. It was good for most of the summer but near the end it started to happen again. I pulled the starter apart and found the brushes worn out. I rebuilt it and then was ok again, at least until I put it away for the winter. I believe that low voltage and/or too much draw while cranking was robbing the ignition of the voltage needed to fire it. It would probably be worth a look anyway.
